A 'stepping-stone' to a hidden gem

Set between the larger islands of North and South Uist, Benbecula is a spectacular destination in its own right. Defined by its low, flat, but effortlessly dramatic landscape, dominated by a single peak: Rueval Hill.

Benbecula’s history as a military base gives it a unique flavour amongst the Outer Hebrides with an airport that was formerly a World War Two airstrip amongst other unusual infrastructure.

Natural wonders

Benbecula is a small island but rich in natural wonders. It has many fantastic beaches including Culla Bay Beach, a haven for wildlife such as Oystercatchers and Lapwings; Liniclate Beach, with its glorious sunsets and Airport Beach, home of stunning views of (and above) the horizon.

For the more intrepid explorer, take a hike up to the top of Rueval – Benbecula’s only hill – for incredible panoramic views around the island.

Or, experience the essence of the Hebrides at North Uist Distillery on Benbecula – where tradition meets innovation in every bottle. Sample the Downpour gin, or cocktails at this family-run distillery.
