The smallest of the small isles, Muck is a micro-community with a lot to offer. A range of secluded beaches, a ton of native wildlife and a variety of walks to suit all experiences make it the ideal location for a short island getaway. With no shop, church or even postbox; Muck is truly off the beaten track.
But it’s that very wildness that attracts visitors to this barely populated island – a chance to escape the trappings of modern life and revel in the majesty of authentic island life. A sensational location to visit in isolation, or a great island to stop by as part of a tour of its neighbouring small islands.
A walker’s paradise, the island has many walking routes to explore across its modest expanse. Take a hike up the 452ft Beinn Airein, the islands only peak, to catch a panoramic view of the surrounding small islands. Traverse the coastline to reach the medieval fort of Caisteal an Duin Bhain.
Or for the intrepid, make the circuit around the coastline of the Isle of Muck with its varied terrain including cliff-tops, wild beaches and farmland – offering stunning views throughout the duration of your walk.
The social side of the island can be found in Muck’s craft shop and tea room. A hive of activity for both locals and visitors during the summer months, you can stop off here to have a hearty lunch en route to one of the island’s many walking routes.
The attached craft shop exhibits the bounty of island ingenuity – featuring original crafts produced on the island, including rugs made from Isle of Muck wool and homemade baskets.
