Mallaig port

The picturesque fishing village of Mallaig, high on Scotland’s wild west coast is a popular tourist attraction due to its stunning landscape and terminus for the iconic Jacobite steam train. It is also one of the busiest ports on the CalMac network, offering a range of routes all over the western isles.

Key Information

  • This is a bookable route. We advise you to book and reserve your preferred sailing in advance.
  • If you arrive at the port without a reservation we may still be able to carry you. Please proceed to the ticket office.
  • Vehicles bound for for the Small Isles must be in possession of a valid permit to travel.
  • Pre-Booking of vehicles is strongly recommended.
  • Operates year round.
  • Connecting bus and train at Mallaig.

Crossing Times:

  • Small Isles - Varies depending on the island.
  • Lochboisdale 3 hours 30 minutes.
  • Armadale 45 minutes.

Vehicles

  • Please arrive before your check-in closes.
    • Armadale / Small Isles - 30 minutes before departure
    • Lochboisdale - 45 minutes before departure
  • Vehicles bound for the Small Isles must be in possession of a valid permit to travel (Canna, Eigg, Muck and Rum).
  • If you arrive earlier than the stated check in time please do not join the boarding lanes.
  • If you miss your booked sailing, or the size of your vehicle differs from that declared, we may not be able to carry you and you may have to pay an additional fee. 
  • We reserve the right to amend your booking appropriately on arrival.
